DEAR System's Latest Upgrades

Updated: Dec 10, 2021

Mobile phone camera for scanning barcodes

Mobile device cameras could be used to scan barcodes more conveniently for customers. This functionality is now available in DEAR POS. Applies only to mobile POS systems which use camera scanning, such as tablets and phones.

How To:

  1. From the main menu of DEAR POS, select Setup. Select Scanning via camera mode.

  2. The DEAR POS mobile app will display a Scan icon next to the search field in the following areas:

    • Sales Register

    • Sales View

    • Stocktake in progress

    • Stock Transfer

Improvements in eCommerce transaction consolidation for Xero users

For DEAR accounts integrated with Xero, transactions are consolidated by eCommerce sales channels instead of being treated individually.

A daily invoice/credit note to Xero will be consolidated from all invoices/credit notes with the same date, currency, tax inclusive/exclusive indicator, shop name and sales channel. This consolidation period was always one day. Merchants who have 1000 transactions a day from multiple sales channels may have difficulty using this feature.

Users now have more control over consolidations in the latest release of Xero. Payments, journals, and money tasks can be consolidated daily, monthly, or not at all, while sales can be consolidated every day or every month.

How To:

  • Go to Integrations → Xero → [select your store]. Scroll down to Consolidate on Export.

  • For viewing and editing consolidation options, enable Xero Summary Details.

  • Consolidation settings won't be changed by this update. For users connecting to Xero for the first time, consolidation is not enabled.

Defining the unit cost of production resources

For the past few releases, the costing of production resources has been calculated based on the cycle time of the resource and the number of cycles in a Production Run. Depending on how many goods are produced, however, the cost of a resource varies. The resource cost per cycle time can now be applied to a unit of finished product within the production bill of materials.

How To:

  • Setting resource cost (Production → Settings → Resources → [select resource]). The Costs tab allows you to set a cost per unit of time (cycle time), which can also be applied as a cost per unit of finished goods.

    • If you set costs by this method, we recommend keeping the cycle time close to the time to produce one unit as possible.

  • Resources for production operations can be included in a production BOM as Cost per unit of time or Cost per finished product.

    • Production BOMs cannot be edited with regards to resource costs; costs must be edited in production settings on the resource page.

Load client data from the POS

New options for loading client data into the application have been added to this release to speed up loading processes. They include:

  • In online mode, no customer data is sent to the application. If a request is made, such as looking up a customer, the POS will retrieve customer information.

  • In offline mode, all customers are loaded to the local app storage of the POS application. POS will periodically check the local app storage for any new customers.

  • In hybrid mode, customers less than 10 000 can use offline mode while customers over the threshold can use online mode.

Online and hybrid modes will not work when the device is offline.

How To:

  • Select Integrations → DEAR POS → [select store] → Setup.

  • Customers can be loaded offline, online, or hybrid in General Settings.

  • By default, all new shops operate in hybrid mode. When the customer number is checked for the first time in a new store with more than 10 000 customers, the online mode will be activated. There is no limit to the number of customers you can have in offline mode.
